La Frontera EMPACT-SPC (Suicide Prevention Center), a member agency of La Frontera Arizona, is an industry leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing valued community services and resources for behavioral health counseling, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention since 1987. In this position you will provide direct service crisis de-escalation and counseling to individuals and families using a Systems based approach to interventions. Services may also include transportation services, psychoeducation, psychotherapy behavior management and referral services to individuals and families who may be in potential crisis situations.

Skills / Requirements

  1. Provide direct in-home, in-office, and community based crisis counseling and follow-up services as assigned. Individual, family and group counseling services will be provided to individuals and families as clinically appropriate
  2. Provide psychotherapy for the purpose of assessment, diagnosis and treatment to individuals and families
  3. Provide comprehensive services to clients and coordinate communication with other departments in the agency to accomplish continuity of care. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all related state, community behavioral health, and contracting organizations.
  4. Ensure quality service delivery including clinical care and all associated documentation.
  5. Maintain all client records in accordance with agency policies and procedures.  This includes appropriate phone documentation, intake documentation, endangerment triaging, treatment planning, referral triaging, risk planning, termination documentation, interagency reports and follow-up documentation
  6. Perform job duties in a safe manner at all times; provide support for team members and perform cooperatively and professionally as part of a cohesive team.

Other Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Recommend to the Program Coordinator or Manager changes that would improve service delivery. Select and develop one specialized function related to the development of department services.
  2. Provide instruction and training for interns, pool staff, and new staff as assigned by the Program Coordinator or Department Manager. This may include development and implementation of training for other community partners
  3. Participate in all regularly scheduled department meetings. Required to receive at least 4 hours of supervision per month from a coordinator in the department. 
  4. Work beyond scheduled work hours to complete required paperwork or to complete crisis stabilization tasks. Evening and night hours may be required.
  5. Will be required at times to work in potentially volatile situations and to react in a professional manner to crisis situations regardless of the nature of the environment or circumstances.
  6. Will be required to oversee everyday functioning of department vehicles and to immediately report incidents involving damage or theft. May be required to do basic safety checks on vehicles (oil, tire air pressure, etc.)
  7. This position receives a differential in pay, which is specific to this position only. If one wishes to accept a different position in the agency, the differential would not follow.  The following responsibilities accompany the position and, along with the high-risk nature of the work in the department, account for the differential. 
  • Will be required to work beyond his/her shift with no advanced warning if the crisis situation warrants or if required paperwork is not complete at the end of the shift.
  • Will be required to attend all mandatory meetings regardless of if they fall on a day that is outside the regularly scheduled shift or if they occur after the end of a shift. If department meetings or scheduled supervision is missed because of a crisis call, the therapist is required to reschedule the meeting to assure that all supervision requirements are met.
  • Will be required to work holidays if shift falls on one. May be denied request to take holiday off if the scheduler is unable to fill the shift.
  • Will be required to give at least 2 weeks’ notice in writing to take a day off. The supervisor grants days off only after the scheduler indicates that the shift could be filled.
  • Will be required at times to work in potentially volatile situations and to react in a professional manner to crisis situations regardless of the nature of the environment or circumstances.  
  • Will be required to be flexible in terms of shift location and to change location if requested at the beginning of the shift to better meet the needs of the department.
  • May be required to use own personal vehicle if agency van is out of service or unavailable. However, will not be required to transport clients in own personal vehicle.
  • May be required to use "down time" for special projects to benefit Crisis and/or other departments within the agency.

Education/Experience

  • Master's Degree in Behavioral Health field is required.
  • Experience in behavioral health field and experience working with children in Department of Child Safety (previously CPS) care or AZ Children's Behavioral Health System is required.
  • Knowledge of the Children's RBHA system preferred.
  • Must be detail oriented and have good time management and customer service skills.
  • Must have Fingerprint clearance card / or eligible to obtain one.
  • Must have a valid AZ driver's license with no major infractions in the past three years.
  • Must have regular access to reliable transportation
